It took me a long time to 'get' Bob Dylan. The whiny voice, often parodied, made it hard to really engage with his music for me. I'd also heard a lot about how he cherrypicked the best bits from old blues records, which had my guard up.
But the odd standout ('Lay Lady Lay', 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' etc) had me open to giving him a chance (along with his fantastic Radio Hour). And when my wife bought The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan I heard the groove on Corrina Corrina, which cemented him as a beautiful songwriter in my mind.
